AN ARTIST-OR NOT?
“Guess what ,I knew you were an artist when I saw you?”
And I wondered why?
“Well, you don’t really look like an artist.”
Again I wondered why? [this time , a wee bit irritated]
Ok ! So what does an artist look like? Any uniform or some structured norm?….. Like maybe a few oil paint swabs on the face ,unruly hair, untidy clothes-and to top that –a crazed look?
Now again, how does an artist behave? Always philosophical, digging out the meaning behind the “harsh realities” of life, looking vague and talking unpredictably.?
Heavy duty stuff, this! In other words, a depressive nutcase!
Come on, an .artist can be better than that ! Not just a weird soul, always broke-with mental issues, hiding in the studio all his life , becoming famous only when dead. [that I fervently hope not..hehehe]
On a serious note, being artistic is just a state of mind. It is that part of our brain, which just doesn’t ever sleep.
Did you know, there is evidence that every human being in this world has a creative streak in him.? No less than Discovery Channel said that [hope you all believe it now].
You know what I found real interesting there? The part of brain which is responsible for the artistic talent , remains untouched ,even if there is some major damage to the brain. In cases like alzhiemers and mild autism, the artistic side doesn’t really deteriorate.
Moreover , bringing out your imaginative and dreamy side can actually work as an anti depressant. Isnt all this an eye opener?
So , give in to your creative instincts, friends. ,it will be morally uplifting. After all, everyone is an artist to one degree on another, whether we look it or not.
I remember reluctance to calling myself an artist some years back. I thought , is it legitimate? After all I don’t have any credentials to make such a claim.
Maybe my ego was afraid of people rolling there eyes at me.
Now , I see it as a silly emotion. After all who is to decide and how? Labels and definitions are merely to confuse.
ART IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT ONE FEELS IT IS AND AN ARTIST IS ANYBODY WHO SAYS HE IS.
So everyone is an artist , even though one might not be related to the Fine arts field. You all might be aware, but just for your kind information, Fine arts cover[ legitimately] 1.Painting 2. Sculpture3. Architecture 4.Music 5. Poetry.
But still there is no consensus about this today.
For me, solving a difficult physics problem with ease,or technically understanding the machines is a great art and talent. Everybody does apply creative thinking in their own fields of specialization, be it law, agriculture or people management.
I have a friend called Linda . She is a great cook not only because she cooks food well. It is the way she uses her creative ideas in making a mere tomato look like a respectable Mr Tomato smiling up at you, saying, “ Ain’t I irresistible!” See the party in the photo below.
This is sheer creativity!

I guess we all respect skill and technique-more so which we don’t use or get to use in our routine life.
Greatest scientists were all logical men-with streaks of creative eccentricities, In fact they are and were the greatest of artists, who have changed the world with their imagination.
So I say, anyone who imagines and creates ,is an artist. And it is very helpful these days ,to be in tune with our creative sides… just to loosen up . After all
“Art is the only way you can run away, without leaving home”
So last but not the least, let me impress upon my friends what Robert Schuller implored
“ There is an artist imprisoned in each of us. Let him be loose to spread joy”
Give it a thought , Amigo!
